THIS SATURDAY NIGHT (6th March) Night event at AMBURY PARK
Next Week TUESDAY 9th March Auckland Domain - details below
Again the rain held off and we were treated to a very pleasant evening for enjoying the lovely surrounds of Self's Farm - a real surprise to find in the middle of the city for those for whom it was their first visit. Thanks again to Mr Self for generously opening up his property to us, and to Mike for his enjoyable courses.
We hope you enjoyed being able to use electronic timing tonight. Unfortunately this is the only SummerNav event where we can use our forest timing system as too many controls go missing in the parks and it is somewhat expensive to loose a control box. However this is what we use all the time in the forest and what you will use in the majority of countries around the world. It does catch you out if you decide to miss a portion of the course or visit the controls in the wrong order, however. If you do this by accident you can remedy it with no penalty simply by returning to the control that was missed and continuing in the correct order (repunching any control that was previously punched out of sequence). It is always fun after the event to go into winsplits (http://www.obasen.nu/winsplits/online/en/) and compare your times for each leg to others on your course - you will soon find if you loose time relative to others on up hill legs, or if your route choice to a particular control was a poor one.
We had quite a few inquiries tonight about how to get you own card, which is certainly worthwhile if you are going to attend a few of the forest, farm and sprint events. They are now being sold through the Mapsport shop, http://www.mapsport.co.nz, and Michael Wood, who runs this, will post anything to you. Please note, however that there are now several models of SI cards and only the SI 5 and 6 models work with the AOC older control boxes which we are likely to continue to use for the foreseeable future for some of our events. SI-cards 5 are also available from Rolf Wagner rolf [at] cnacomputers.co.nz for $65.
This Saturday is our night event at Ambury Park, accessed from the end of Ambury Rd, off Muir Ave. Starts for youngster from dusk (about 8.30) and others at dark (about 9.00pm). There will be 3 courses, a bit shorter then the day time events. Bring along a good torch. The controls will have reflectors on them to make them easier to spot in the light of the torch. There are BBQs in the parking area and you can even camp the night there by contacting the ARC - something which we highly recommend.
The event next week is again on Tuesday (9th) at the Auckland Domain, starting from near the Band Rotunda. - The registration will be in The Crescent, near the playing fields. There are only two more SummerNav events after this one so make sure you don't miss out!
