Another beautiful evening for orienteering and we were so lucky to be at such a beautiful place. It really is one of the most picturesque maps that we have. Thanks very much to Jen and Pete for their great courses. Some of us on course 1, at the far end of the map, did wonder whether we were so grateful. I'm sure that we were all grateful by the end. Some of us appreciated coming through the finish area on the course - good water stop or early finish.
Next week we are on the Western Springs map, starting from the Stadium Rd side of the park. Again on a Tuesday (16th).
On February 21 (Sunday) we have the first forest event of the year. A chance to come out and try some wonderful forest orienteering. It is in Woodhill Forest - entrance Rimmer Rd - this is the one off State Highway 16 shortly before the junction near Parakai and Helensville. Start times will be between 10am and 12:30. We'll be using electronic timing so for those who've never experienced this come and try this feature too. The event is in a lovely piece of the forest right on the coast. It would be really great to see lots of our new SummerNav people come out and see why we really love orienteering. Make sure you bring a picnic and enjoy a great day out. Also remember to bring lots of water as it could be very hot.
This event will be FREE for first timers to a forest event (that's how keen we are for you to experience forest orienteering!)
NOTE There is a possibility if we get no rain that the forest could be closed so please check the website close to the event to ensure it is still on.
TRAINING. In preparation for stepping up to forest orienteering from the summerNav orienteering there will be a short training session at Western Springs. This is theoretical training - that is no running involved - just looking at a map and having various aspects of forest orienteering described. Please let the registration you'll be interest when you're getting your map. The training will start at about 7pm.
Then in the forest, on the 21st, after your run (about 1.pm) we will have a more practical coaching session involving a walk out onto the map. Again please tell registration that you will take part when you arrive at the event
