What a fantastic end to our 36th SummerNav season! Tonight's courses provided to us by Alina and Kate have to be the hightlight of the year! Those of you who missed out tonight missed the best chance to improve your orienteering skills that you could get in a city environment. Not only did Alina and Kate provide 4 excellent normal SummerNav courses, they threw in a memory course (lots of work) and for an end of season special, their Surprise Course. There could have been no better training night for the more serious orienteers who are heading to the Nationals at Easter. The Surprise Course started off with a line course where you had to follow exactly the winding route of the line drawn on th map to find the 8 controls along its way. This was followed by a course drawn through the top half of the map devoid of any colour, fences, or tracks. Having mastered that you were thrown into a memory course section and for good measure found your way back to the finish along a corridor course - a narrow strip of map containing your course with everything on both sides of the corridor blanked out!. Huge thanks, Alina and Kate, for putting in so much work to give us all a testing and fun night out on the final event of the season.
Thank you to you all for coming along to SummerNav all season. It is always a little sad when the final event comes along, just as so many of you have built up enthusiasm for the events. However there is a calendar full of different sorts of events coming up throughout the year. There are the Sunday forest events where there is a course suitable for all levels of experience and fitness, forest and farm rogaines, city sprints, city night events and for those of you who get hooked into the sport lots of championship events as well. Just keep an eye of the AOC home page to see the events coming up. For a start, this weekend there is a sprint on the Mount Roskill schools map on Saturday afternoon, with starts between 4pm and 5.30 - please enter via the AOC website by tomorrow night, and a forest event being run by the Counties Manuku club in South Waiuku forest on Sunday.
