Only one more week to go! It is always hard to believe as the end of another SummerNav season comes – it seems so far away when we start at the end of October. However, as Michael and Aiden were racing to try and get the controls in from their courses before it was completely dark tonight, it was clear why the season must end. A big thank you to them both for tonight’s great courses. There were certainly plenty of people out there to enjoy them!
The final event for the season will be at Cornwall Park, next WEDNESDAY evening, starting in Hadyn Ave , off Manukau Rd, on the edge of the park.
However, the end of SummerNav only signals the beginning of orienteering for the year. There are TWO events in the forest this coming weekend – a middle distance event on Saturday in Riverhead forest, so quite short courses, and a long distance (the usual forest event lengths) on Sunday in Woodhill forest, on the Hedley Rd map, accessed from Slater Rd, north of Parakai. See the AOC website for details and to enter.
The Saturday event is being run by AOC and we are offering non club members who have not orienteered in the forest to come along and try it out at club members prices (ie 50% off). To take advantage of this, when you enter online and it asks for your club click other and specify ‘First Time’ when it asks for the club name. There will be courses available for all levels of experience and fitness (even a free string course for the VERY young) and plenty of people available to talk you through what to do. Just tell registration you are new to forest orienteering. Please note this discount only applies to the event on Saturday.

PS – A big congratulations to all the Auckland Club members who competed in the Katoa Po Night relay competition in Taupo at the weekend. The seven man team proudly came home with the trophy and one of our 5 man teams was runner up in their competition – Well Done!!
